SOUTH HADLEY — School Committee approves three new positions and $27.8 million FY27 budget. The South Hadley School Committee voted 4 to 1 to add an Adjustment Counselor at Mosier Elementary, a Literacy Specialist at the middle school, and a Dean of Students, alongside targeted salary increases totaling $300,000 and revising the operating budget to $27,800,000. Chairperson Eric Friesner, Vice Chairperson Tracie Kennedy, and members Danielle Cooke and Jack Witkowski voted in favor; member Nicholas Prentiss dissented.
The decision came after SHEA President Amy Foley recommended the funds be directed to educator wage increases for retention, but Superintendent Jennifer Voyik clarified that the appropriation was intended for strategic investments to retain students and generate revenue. In other business, the committee approved warrant disbursements totaling $1,061,717.38 and unanimously approved updates to the Mosier student handbook.
