CONSERVATION COMMISSION PERMITS DAM REPAIRS; ENFORCES WATER DISTRICT COMPLIANCE
Conservation Commission · Meeting of August 5, 2026
South Hadley Conservation Commission permits Hillcrest Park dam repairs with tree-replacement mandate. The commission unanimously issued Order of Conditions #288-0506 requiring 28 replacement trees to mitigate removal of 13 trees within the approximately 100-year-old dam project; the work addresses deficiencies identified in a recent dam inspection including concrete spalling, erosion, and overgrown vegetation near critical structures. Project engineer Bucky Sparkle and property manager Sabrina Bardwell presented the full scope: concrete repairs using cofferdams, slope stabilization with nine-inch riprap, erosion control measures, and native seed replanting.
In separate action, commissioners unanimously ratified an Enforcement Order against Fire District #1 Water Department for unpermitted masonry repairs and placement of millings at Leaping Well Reservoir on Granby Road.
