SOUTH HADLEY — Planning Board defers sign-bylaw hearing for First Amendment compliance revisions. The board held a hybrid public hearing April 13 on proposed amendments to the Zoning Bylaw designed to ensure content neutrality in sign regulations as required by Reed v. Town of Gilbert.
Director Anne Capra presented draft amendments affecting signs, home occupations, professional business uses, and bed-and-breakfast facilities. Board members discussed regulation of signs under 6 square feet, and resident Catherine Allen raised concerns about signage in residential neighborhoods. The Board voted unanimously to continue the hearing to April 27 for revised drafts.
