Planning Board reorganizes, endorses Snapl sign, advances zoning amendments to Town Meeting

SOUTH HADLEY — Planning Board reelects Mulvaney, backs zoning amendments for May Town Meeting. Chair Diane Mulvaney was reelected to her post by a 3-1 vote with herself abstaining, alongside reelection of Vice-Chair Bob Szklarz by the same tally. The Board unanimously approved an illuminated wall sign for Snapl at 755 New Ludlow Road and endorsed an Approval Not Required plan resolving an encroachment at 7 and 11 Hadley Street.
In a public hearing, real estate agents urged relief from sign permitting requirements; the Board responded by adopting a 6-square-foot threshold for signs not requiring permits and refining definitions of temporary and permanent signs. The Board unanimously voted to submit the amendments to zoning sections 255-85 (Signs), 255-10 (Terms Defined), 255-22 (Home Occupations), 255-34 (Professional Business Uses), and 255-39 (Bed-and-breakfast Facilities) to the Selectboard for inclusion on the May 13 Annual Town Meeting Warrant.
