Elementary School Project Committee selects new-build, grades 1-5 option
Elementary School Project Building Committee · Meeting of February 11, 2026
SOUTH HADLEY — Elementary School Project Committee unanimously selects new-build option at existing site. Chair Diane Mulvaney and the eight-member committee voted unanimously on a motion by Kevin McAllister, seconded by Len Finkowski, to adopt Option 5 (new construction on the existing Mosier Elementary site with grades 1-5 reconfiguration) as the preferred design solution. Community survey results showed 7 of 9 respondents favored the grades 1-5 configuration, and high school student listening sessions conducted by Principal Liz Wood reported student support for the option.
The decision follows analysis showing an approximate 15 million dollar difference between Options 4 and 5 after estimated 50 percent Massachusetts School Building Authority reimbursement. Town Administrator Lisa Wong will coordinate with the Town Accountant and bond counsel to analyze bonding capacity and affordability.
