SOUTH HADLEY — Elementary school project committee selected full air conditioning as base building design. The South Hadley Elementary School Building Project Committee decided to move forward with full air conditioning using chilled beams as the base design option and air displacement as an alternate following extensive discussion about cooling systems. Committee members expressed concerns that schools with air displacement systems experience hot classrooms in warmer months.
The committee asked architects and consultants to compare costs for each option, and temporary space costs from Criterion came in at $130,000 per year, or $390,000 for three years, below an earlier $1 million estimate.
