Committee selects demolition and new construction for elementary school project

South Hadley elementary school project committee advances demolition-and-rebuild plan. The Building Committee voted 8 to 2 on May 11 to select Alternative 8, demolition of Mosier Elementary and new construction of a grades 1–5 building on the same site, for submission to the Massachusetts School Building Authority by June 30. The option carries a preliminary total project cost of 113.0 million dollars, including approximately 750,000 to 1 million dollars for temporary student relocation during three years of construction beginning in 2027–2028, partially offset by operational savings.
Chair Diane Mulvaney, Vice Chair Jeff Cyr, and others voting against cited educational disruption; supporters emphasized long-term flexibility and elimination of the unsprinklered existing building.
