South Hadley's Elementary School Project Building Committee moved toward narrowing seven design alternatives to one or two preferred solutions. Chair Diane Mulvaney directed members to complete individual scoring sheets using a criteria matrix developed by Mt. Vernon Architects, with submissions due January 26, 2026 and results compiled for discussion at the January 28 meeting.
Owner's Project Manager Nicholas Lobik (Skanska) confirmed the Massachusetts School Building Authority has resolved all initial Preliminary Design Program submission comments with a formal response expected within one to two weeks. An unresolved tension emerged between Superintendent Jennifer Voyik's advocacy for a grades 1–5 configuration (costing $30 million more) and fiscal concerns raised by Jeff Cyr, Kevin McAllister, and Rudolph Hall, citing the town's tight budget. The committee unanimously approved $400 for advertising and materials for a February 5 community meeting and unanimously adopted a meeting schedule through April 29, when it will vote to authorize the Preferred Schematic Report submission to MSBA.
